Do other plants have cannabinoids? YES THEY DO!
We are use to hearing about Marijuana (or Hemp) having cannabinoids but did you know cannabinoids exist in many other plants as well?
- Cacao (chocolate) contains compounds that interact with our Endocannabinoid System, specifically an enzyme called FAAH which breaks down Anandamide (basically our natural THC). Chocolate essentially blocks FAAH which in turn gives us that relaxed happy feeling!
- Black pepper has a terpene called beta-caryophyllene which binds to the CB2 receptor and helps decrease things like inflammation and also help with arthritis.
- Liverwort contains perrottetinenic acid which binds to the CB1 receptor just like THC. It is not known to make you high like THC does but has been used for things like bronchitis.
- Echinacea has been used throughout history to help with everything from common colds to aches and pains. This is due to something called “cannabimimetics” which interact with the Endocannabinoid system and specifically the CB2 receptor.
